These tips are basically my bible for furniture/ decoration shopping on a budget. My style is a mix of traditional glamour with modern touches. Everything in my home is defined by tufting, white accents, mirrored furniture and gold decor which never fails to look fabulously chic together. Many think that the tufted couch and mirrored cabinet you’ve been drooling over for months will end up costing you thousands- but have no fear. You can create your DREAM apartment on a tiny budget and here’s how:
1. Go with a neutral base.
First, let me explain the bases. Your bases for the room you’re designing are your large pieces in a space: Couches, armchairs, cabinets, beds and rugs are all considered bases. Why neutral colors? There are three reasons: First, a neutral color base will make your room feel grander and more spacious. Second, it will bring out textures and pop the details in your decor. If you had, let’s say, a bright colored couch, it would immediately take away from the texture and details of your throw pillows. With a neutral base, your decorations will be noticed and admired. Last but not least, neutral colored furniture is normally cheaper and there’s generally more abundance of it.
2. Add mirrors.
Add mirrors to your space. Not just a wall mirror (which everyone should have in their entryway!) but even mirrored furniture and small decor. A mirrored cabinet or console table is a fabulous base to any room. It adds depth, makes your room feel more spacious and above all it will be a stunning feature piece in your space. In addition, you can add some mirrored candle holders or a mirrored vase somewhere in your home. You can find fabulously priced mirrored furniture and decor at stores like Homegoods, T.J Maxx and even Amazon! These are your one-stop shops for fabulously glam finds. I bought my mirrored cabinet for just $200 at HomeGoods and the mirror above my cabinet for $15 at a local dollar store (which introduces my next tip.) Nothing says glam more than mirrors!
3. Finding finds in the places you least expect.
You can find my previous post about this topic here but to break it down: We’ve all been to Marshalls, T.J Maxx and Homegoods and we all know they are great places to find amazing deals. However, there are plenty of other resources to find furniture and decorations on a budget. Your local dollar store, Amazon and Craigslist, and my favorite, Amazon marketplace, are great recourses to find amazing products at amazing prices.
